友人 Eugene

友人 (Eugene) is a non-binary, androgynous UTAU voicebank with a remarkable, lived-in timbre that carries both intimacy and distance. His voice was created from a carefully preserved collection of remnants, rebuilt phonemes and heavily post-produced material, giving the feeling of someone speaking back through layers of memory.

Profile

His voice is warm and gentle, but there is always a trace of mystery in it, as if he were still trying to remember the shape of his own voice.

Eugene is a quiet presence in the universe, appearing only when something important has been left unfinished. His existence is tied to a disappearance that was never fully explained, which makes him both deeply personal and hauntingly unresolved.

He does not demand attention; instead, he arrives like an echo of someone beloved, mournful and half-lost, still refusing to disappear completely.

The voice does not pretend to answer what happened. It simply remains: a preserved voice belonging to someone who may be somewhere else, or may no longer be here.

“Preservation can be an act of love.”

Etymology

友人 (Eugene) uses the Japanese word 友人, meaning “friend”. The name also sounds phonetically similar to his real name and carries an existential meaning within the project: a friend represented through a voice that remains.

Character notes

  • Blue hair with bright streaks, small devil horns, sharp features, bold eyeliner and a confident, playful smile.
  • His clothing and visual identity have changed across the project's revisions, while the recognizable character remains continuous.
  • Possums, old Vocaloid scenes and eerie early VocaPi tracks.
  • Small obsessions, niche voices, haunting music, quiet time and things that are weird or unpolished.
  • Forced cheerfulness, empty praise, pressure and having his silences interpreted as agreement.
  • The small horns are part of Eugene's identity and function as a symbol of defiance in the character concept.
